Belyuen CDEP continues to work very closely with Council in providing services in the community. CDEP has thirty participants working in a number of different areas – Council Office, Community Store, Health Centre, Imabulk Centre, Family and Children’s Services Centre, Community Services – Landscaping and mechanical and Housing.
Every attempt is made to place participants in an area that they are interested in and to help organize training for them.
CDEP workers are always willing helpers for community functions such as Community Christmas party, Karaoke nights, football matches and community barbeques.
Belyuen Council has on a number of times sought extra positions for CDEP however have not been successful.
Belyuen CDEP would benefit from the employment of a Co-ordinator however the way the Regional CDEP is structured does not allow for a Co-ordinator position only that of a part time Supervisor (a CDEP worker with top up).
The structure of the Regional CDEP is not seen by CDEP workers or Belyuen Council to be in the best of interest of Belyuen CDEP workers and there continues to be a general feeling that CDEP organizations in Darwin benefit more from the Regional CDEP than communities such as Belyuen. Belyuen CDEP does not have any input on the CDEP committee and nor do they receive minutes of meetings, financial reports, informed of training.
Belyuen Council and staff continue to be the primary focus point for CDEP workers in assisting them with work issues or personal issues that relate to their employment.
Belyuen Council is appreciative of the work that the CDEP workers do in the community and will continue to support them.
